Many top anglers used to travel to Gran Canaria Spain from all over europe to fish at lake chira and take advantage of the mild all- year-round climate.The resovoir was constructed in the early 60's and stocked with carp from mainland spain. The carp were introduced primarily to control the mosquito population and keep the weed growth at a managable level. Little or no fault was put into creating a carp fishery at the time as carp were not recognized as a sport fish back then. These fish have thrived in the prime conditions we have here , enjoying all year round sun more or less,which keeps the fighting fit and packing on the pounds....
